A MUST READ For All New Corps Members

Call to Life - NYSC

This is to say a big congratulation to our newest otondos. NYSC camps have opened across the states and every one is expected to resume camp today.

I am so happy because this is another major breakthrough in the journey of career progression in Nigeria. As a matter of fact, even if you studied abroad, you must undergo the compulsory National Youth Service as a symbol of your loyalty and patriotism to your motherland.

The essence of the National Youth Service is still very relevant now even as at when it was founded in 1973. Nation building and national development is the aim objective and since the people are the only tool to achieve that, fresh tertiary institution graduates are required to do this. Exception or waiver is only granted for those above 30 years and still chose to request for waiver.

In the wake of our current realities, permit me to state some facts here as you join others in service.

I have personally spoken with over 2,000 youth corp members directly at differently times and occasion and have addressed over 13,000 across the states, I can truly say that Nigeria has the potential of great nation builders, however, the realities are more challenging than the expectations.

In the course of my reach, most ladies want an employer who can meet and help with their current or aspired expectations. You want a company that can pay you so much so they can maintain their brazilian hair, upgrade their phones to Blackberry Passport and of course would not mind the Porsche.

My major disarray is the disposition of young men to life after camp. The nonchalant display is rather compounds than help the matter. There aim is to get the cleanest girl on camp, date as many as possible and hope that the best would come. Too bad indeed!

The most serious are those who study abroad. I have seen many of such. They are the most informed, thoughtful, inspiring, their CVs are the best, their fluency is attractive and they are ready to work anywhere because they believe they can produce results and will gather inestimable experience.

What should I do on Campus?
NYSC is the best place to start life as an entrepreneur if you are not already.
It is the place where you have ready customers without advertising.
It is the place you are paid for doing nothing
It is the place you get free trainings and highly subsidized certification programs
It is in camps you get to meet government officials easily
It is the place you are free to organize your own community project, you get to raise sponsorship, you get support and you even get celebrated for it.
It is the place where some employers come to find you
It is the place where you are treated as a Nigerian as residence in the community would give you preferential treatment

I have met such corpers who were even consulted by NYSC because they chose to make things happen.

As camp resumes and you get in, do not go in just to mark a year with NYSC, go in to make a mark on Nigeria.

This is an opportunity to get your name on the map of Nigeria. This is an opportunity to stand out as a genius or another Dangote.

For those in the North or South, find out what you have surplus where you are and identify where it is scarce, buy cheap and sell in Lagos or where it will be appreciated.

Have you an idea, do not wait for the whole money in the world to start, #StartNow!#StartSmall.

Make the best of your service year.

You will succeed!
